Add photos to your Google listing
Fix a photo's light, angle and crop, blur faces and number plates, check it, and upload it to Google from the Listing page. Every plan.
Fresh photos help people pick you. Owners and managers can add them from the Photos section of the Listing page, on every plan.
Add a photo
- Click Add a photo and pick a photo from your phone or computer.
- Choose where it goes on your listing: cover photo, logo, outside, inside, products, at work, food and drink, menu, team or other.
- Fix what needs fixing (below), then click Save photo.
Chiffchaff checks the photo as soon as it's saved and shows what it found under the photo.
Fix it up
The editor runs in your browser:
- Auto fix evens out light and colour in one click. Brightness, Contrast and Warmth fine-tune it.
- Rotate turns it a quarter at a time. Straighten levels a tilted shot.
- Crop picks a shape: as taken, square (good for a logo), 4:3, or 16:9 (good for a cover photo). Zoom and move the crop with the sliders.
- Blur hides faces and number plates. Draw a box over each one. Where your browser can spot faces, it suggests boxes for you to accept.
Click Show original to compare, Undo to step back, or Start over.
The editor won't add or remove anything in the photo, or swap the background. Google wants photos that show your place as it really is, and it can take down photos that don't.
Google takes JPG or PNG photos between 10 KB and 5 MB, at least 250 pixels on each side. The editor saves your photo inside those limits.
The photo check
The check looks for what Google or a customer would mind: a blurry or dark shot, a tilted or sideways one, a face someone could recognize, a number plate that can be read, text or a logo added on top, and anything that isn't a real photo of your place or work. It suggests fixes and says which category the photo fits best.
Click Check again after you change a photo. The check is free; you can run up to 200 a month.
People in your photos
If the check sees a face, or can't check the photo, you can't upload it until you either:
- blur the faces and check it again, or
- tick Everyone shown agreed to be on our listing, or no one is shown and click Confirm.
Google expects you to have permission from anyone who can be recognized in your photos. Chiffchaff records who confirmed and when.
Upload to Google
Click Upload to Google. Google reviews new photos, so it can take a day or two to show. Chiffchaff looks for it each morning and marks it Live on Google with a link, or Rejected if Google didn't keep it.
A photo that's on Google can't be changed or removed from Chiffchaff. Remove it in Google Business Profile.
Undo and the original
Chiffchaff keeps the photo as you first picked it for 30 days, so Edit and Undo edits can go back to it. After 30 days it's deleted, and editing starts from the saved version. Photos you delete here are deleted from Chiffchaff straight away.
What we keep
The finished photo, a smaller copy for the page and the check, and the original for 30 days, in private storage only your team can open through Chiffchaff. Your data download lists your photos and what happened to each, but not the image files themselves. See Download or delete your data.
