Reviews that may break Google's rules
Why a review gets flagged, how to report it to Google, and what happens after.
Chiffchaff checks new Google reviews against Google's review rules. If one looks like it breaks them, it's flagged so you can report it to Google. A review is never flagged just for being negative.
What gets flagged
A review may be flagged as:
- Spam or fake review
- Off topic
- Conflict of interest
- Harmful or illegal content
- Harassment or hate
- Profanity or obscene content
- Personal information
- Impersonation
Flagged reviews show May break Google's rules in the inbox, with the reason. Owners and managers get an email about each one unless they turn off Email me when a review may break Google's rules in Notifications.
Report it to Google
Only Google can remove a review. On the flagged review, click Report to Google and follow the steps:
- Open Google's review management tool.
- Find the review.
- Choose the reason shown in Chiffchaff.
- Come back and click Mark reported.
After you mark it reported, Chiffchaff checks Google every few hours. If the review is gone, you'll see that Google removed it. If it's still up after 30 days, we tell you that too.
If the flag is wrong
Click It's fine, remove the flag, or Not now to decide later.
Flag one yourself
If you think a review breaks the rules and it wasn't flagged, open it and click Report this review to Google. Pick a reason, such as having no record of the customer, and click Flag this review.
Turn checking off
Owners and managers can turn off Flag reviews that may break Google's rules in Settings → All settings → Replies. Checks don't count toward your monthly drafts, and autopilot never replies to a flagged review.
